Inca Trail Experience
This half-day hiking experience takes us deep into the history, landscapes, and living ecosystems of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Combining archaeology, nature, and ancient trails, this route is ideal for travelers seeking a meaningful, non-touristic hike connected to Andean culture and biodiversity.

Journey to the Highlands of Calca
Our day begins with a scenic drive from the Sacred Valley toward the town of Calca, an important connection point between the Andes and the jungle valleys of Cusco. From here, we ascend through a dramatic gorge, gaining altitude as the landscapes shift from farmland to highland ecosystems. The drive itself offers stunning views and insight into the geography that shaped ancient Andean civilizations.

Exploring Ankasmarka: The Village of the Eagle
We arrive at the archaeological site of Ankasmarka, whose name means “Village of the Eagle.” This impressive complex sits high above the valley and contains more than 600 pre-Inca and Inca constructions discovered so far. Ankasmarka was a strategic and ceremonial settlement, likely used for control, administration, and spiritual purposes.
As we walk through the site, we’ll explore stone structures, terraces, and pathways while learning about the role of Ankasmarka within the broader Inca road system. Our guide will share insights into Andean worldview, architecture, and how these highland sites were integrated into daily life, agriculture, and ritual practices.

Hiking the Capaq Ñan – The Royal Inca Trail
From Ankasmarka, we begin our hike along a section of the Capaq Ñan, the legendary Royal Inca Trail network that once connected the vast Inca Empire. This trail follows a biodiverse creek, offering a peaceful and immersive walking experience surrounded by native forest, mountain scenery, and flowing water.
Along the way, we’ll take time to appreciate the rich flora and fauna, recognize medicinal plants, and understand how the Incas designed trails that worked in harmony with the landscape. This section of the trail is quiet, uncrowded, and ideal for travelers who want to experience the Inca Trail without the crowds of more famous routes.

Nature, Silence, and Connection
The hike is moderate and designed to allow time for observation, photography, and moments of reflection. The sound of water, the shade of the forest, and the open views of the surrounding mountains create a calm atmosphere that invites connection with nature.
Midway through the hike, we’ll stop to enjoy a delicious box lunch, prepared with fresh ingredients, allowing us to rest and recharge while surrounded by the beauty of the Sacred Valley’s highlands.

Descent to the Cochocc River
Continuing our walk, the trail gradually descends toward the Cochocc River, where the landscape opens and the energy of the valley becomes more present. This final stretch offers a sense of completion, connecting the high archaeological site with the living waters that continue to sustain local communities today.

Return to the Sacred Valley
At the end of the hike, our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to your hotel or to La Base Lamay. The return journey offers time to reflect on the experience and the incredible engineering, spirituality, and environmental knowledge of the ancient Andean cultures.
